Heroin Screws You Up 1980s Campaign

Content Warning

This website and the Museum of Drugs collection contains historic images that have the potential to trigger difficult emotions and experiences.

Drug history is inexorably linked to colonialism and racial narratives that continue to heavily influence contemporary views. Some items in the collection have been purchased specifically for the purpose of exposing historic racism and linking it to the inherent racism that exists in current legislation. They have been shown here for the purpose of changing the narrative to one that is anti-racist.

Other aspects of drugs history are inherently misogynistic, homophobic, and opposed to other minoritised groups. Drugs prohibition became, and remains, a convenient vehicle for oppressing people who do not share power.

Of course, the website and collection directly references drug production, supply and use. There is also reference to suicide.
