Opium Pipes have been a favoured method of smoking since the 17th Century, with many becoming increasingly more ornate in style and materials. Through the use of a pipe, such as the one exhibited in The Museum Of Drugs Paraphernalia And Related Antiquities, a user could surrender themselves to the effects of the vapourised narcotic. Used in conjunction with an opium lamp, the smoker would heat the bell at the end of the stem whilst reclining on one side. |
