Chinese Opium Jar 19th Century

An exquisite example of Quing Dynsaty glass ware, this bottle depicts scenes of concubines at recreation, engaged in caligraphy or embroidery whilst others gather around the ancient Chinese game of Go.

The stopper of the jar has a cork base from which extends a small bone spoon used to serve opium to the eager recipient.

Purchased by the Museum of Drugs Paraphernalia and Related Antiquities September 2011
