Songwriting Competition 2009 The Museum Of Drugs Paraphernalia holds an annual competition for songwriters to compose a piece dedicated to an aspect of the museum collection. As a way of championing the cause of contemporary artists and recognising the significance that substance use has held within popular culture, the Musuem invites musicians and songwriters to compose a song in homage to the life of the Edwarian actress, Billie Carleton who died at the Victory Day Ball in November 1918. Information about Billie is available at the exhibits section of the site. Details: The song will need to be about the life of Billie Carleton. Information about her life and tragic death in 1918, following a large quantity of cocaine and barbiturates, the latter of which was the likely cause of her death, can be explored through the exhibits section of this site. Copywright of the song will remain with the composer, however the Museum will be entitled to use the song in promotion of the site and the aims and objectives of the Museum. The competition closes on June 13th 2009 at 6.00pm. Entrants should contact the Curator - curator@museumofdrugs.com - to arrange for their piece to be submitted. Pieces can be submitted at any time up until the 29th May at 6.00pm. Entrants can come from any musical appreciation, and be a signed or unsigned artist or band and will be required to upload their finished composition onto YouTube. The accompanying video can either be a still or a film created for the overall production. It will however be the song that will be judged for the purposes of this competition. Having received all entrants, the competition will be judged by a panel including the eminent Emmaline Gabrielle Von Ratzer, Honoury President of the Society Of Antiquarians. Mrs Von Ratzer's decision will be final. The winner will be announced on the Museum site on the June 14th 2009. Winners will be contacted directly to receive their congratulations and prize. |
